Basic Mantra of Gyan Mandir Committee
उद्धरेदात्मनात्मानं नात्मानमवसादयेत् |
आत्मैव ह्यात्मनो बन्धुरात्मैव रिपुरात्मन: ||
Meaning of Basic Mantra:
Uddharedātmanātmānaṁ:
We have adopted the fifth stanza described in the sixth
chapter of Shrimad Bhagwadgeeta as its original mantra for the purpose of our working and motivating our students, which is as follows-
uddhared ātmanātmānaṁ nātmānam avasādayet
ātmaiva hyātmano bandhur ātmaiva ripur ātmanaḥ
It means,
"Elevate yourself through the power of your mind, and not degrade yourself,
for the mind can be the friend and also the enemy of the self."
Gyan Mandir Samiti
On June 13, 1967, the work of earning of knowledge (Gyan) in a poor cottage was
started by collecting 4 children and 2 girls.
The first word of its nomenclature is "Gyan" and the site of its launch, a temple of Bhoiwara's poor settlement (Mandir of Lord Dharmaraj ji), hence the second word of its naming "Mandir",
and thus it becomes "Gyan Mandir".
